조지 월턴 루카스 주니어(George Walton Lucas,

이자 기업가이다.
《스타워즈》와 《인디아나 존스》 프랜차이즈의 창작자로
가장 유명하며,
루카스필름과 인더스트리얼 라이트 & 매직의 설립자이기도 하다.
2012년 루카스필름을 월트 디즈니 컴퍼니에
매각하기 전까지는 루카스필름의 회장 겸 최고경영자(CEO)였다.
1967년 서던캘리포니아 대학교 졸업 후,
동료 영화 제작자인 프랜시스 포드 코폴라와 함께
아메리칸 조이트로프를 설립하였다.
루카스는 학창시절 단편 《전자 미로 THX 1138 4EB》를
원작으로 한 《THX 1138》(1971년)의 각본을 쓰고 감독하였다.
이 영화는 비평적으로 성공하였으나, 상업적으로는 실패하였다.
그 다음으로 각본과 감독을 맡은 영화는 《청춘 낙서》 (1973년)이다.
자신의 10대 시절인 1960년대 초 캘리포니아 머데스토에
영감을 받고,
새로 설립한 루카스필름이 제작한 이 영화는

《인디아나 존스》의 세 번째 시리즈인
《인디아나 존스와 최후의 성전》을 제작한 뒤
그 속편을 제작하지 않고 영화에서
손을 떼겠다고 발표하기도 했다.
당시 《인디아나 존스》 시리즈는 영화와 게임으로 발표하였는데,
네 번째 시리즈는 게임만 발표하였다.
그 뒤 영화계에 복귀한 뒤 네 번째 시리즈를 제작하여
2008년 개봉하였다.
그래서 《인디아나 존스》 시리즈의 세 번째 작품까지는
영화가 원작이지만,
네 번째 작품인 《인디아나 존스: 크리스탈 해골의 왕국》은
어느 것이 원작인지 불분명하다.
당시 그 영화를 제작하다가 중단하고 게임을 제작했으며,
이런 관점에서는 영화가 원작이다.
그러나 2008년 개봉된 영화는 게임 내용을 바탕으로
처음부터 다시 제작했으며,
이런 관점에서 게임이 원작이기 때문이다.
2012년 1월 그는 대형 블럭버스터 영화를 제작할 계획이 없다고
밝혔고, 그해 10월 30일 루카스필름을 월트 디즈니사에 팔았다.
그 결과 조지 루카스는 개인 주주로는 스티브 잡스에 이어
월트 디즈니사의 두 번째로 지분이 많게 되었다.

is an American filmmaker and entrepreneur.
He is best known as the creator of the Star
Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, as well
as the founder of Lucasfilm and Industrial
Light & Magic. He led Lucasfilm as chairman
and chief executive before selling it to The
Walt Disney Company in 2012.
Upon graduating from the University of
Southern California in 1967, Lucas co-
founded American Zoetrope with fellow
filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. He wrote and
directed THX 1138 (1971), based on his
earlier student short Electronic Labyrinth:
THX 1138 4EB, which was a critical success
but a financial failure. Lucas's next work
as a writer-director was the film American
Graffiti (1973), inspired by his teen years
in early 1960s Modesto, California, and
produced through the newly founded
Lucasfilm. The film was critically and
commercially successful, and received five
Academy Award nominations including Best Picture.
Lucas's next film, an epic space opera
titled Star Wars (1977), went through a
troubled production process, but was a
surprise hit, becoming the highest-grossing
film at the time as well as a winner of six
Academy Awards and a cultural phenomenon.
Following the first Star Wars film, Lucas
produced and co-wrote the following installments
in the trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and
Return of the Jedi (1983).
Along with Steven Spielberg, he co-
created and wrote the Indiana Jones films
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Temple of
Doom (1984), and The Last Crusade (1989).
Lucas also produced and/or wrote a variety
of films through Lucasfilm in the 1980s and 1990s.
In 1997, Lucas re-released the original Star
Wars trilogy as part of a Special Edition,
where he made several alterations to the
films. These were followed by further
changes for home media releases in 2004 and
2011. Lucas also returned to directing with
the Star Wars prequel trilogy, consisting of
The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the
Clones (2002), and Revenge of the Sith
(2005). He later collaborated on the story
for the Indiana Jones sequel Kingdom of the
Crystal Skull (2008), and served as the
story writer and executive producer for the
war film Red Tails (2012).
Five of Lucas's seven features are among the
100 highest-grossing movies at the North
American box office, adjusted for ticket-
price inflation. Lucas is one of the
American film industry's most financially
successful filmmakers, and has been
personally nominated for four Academy
Awards. He is also considered a significant
figure in the New Hollywood era.
